DISCOVER THE DIFFERENT SKIN TYPES

Your skin is a mystery to be deciphered; an enigma to be solved. In this article, discover the complete guide to a personalised, effective skincare routine tailored to your skin type. If you’re one of those people who have trouble finding the right product to dazzle and enhance your skin, then you’ve come to the right place. However, before we get to the heart of the matter, I’d like you to answer this final question: Do you really know your skin? There are exactly 4 skin types: normal skin, dry skin, oily skin and combination skin. We’ll look at these in more detail later in this article. However, if you’re looking for the ideal cosmetic product to illuminate and enhance your skin, your choice shouldn’t be based on your skin tone but on your skin type.

NORMAL SKIN

Normal skin is balanced or eudermic, neither too oily nor too dry. It has a smooth, soft, velvety texture with an even complexion and fine pores. The T-zone (forehead, chin and nose) may be slightly oily, but the overall oil and moisture balance is not altered. If your skin is soft and luminous, with imperceptible pores and you don’t notice any tightness in your face, then you certainly have normal skin.

How do you maintain normal skin?

Normal skin can tend to dry out, especially when there are sudden changes in temperature, so you should always make sure your skin is well moisturised.

Opt for a weekly scrub to help rid your skin of dead cells. You can use a natural scrub made from products you probably already have at home, such as lemon juice combined with honey and olive oil.
Use a body lotion and face cream suited to your skin, with nourishing, moisturising and refreshing properties. We recommend the moisturising body lotion and face cream in the Nakia range from Karila Cosmetics.
Remove your make-up and cleanse your skin every day

DRY SKINS

Dry skin (xerosis in scientific terms) is skin that produces less sebum than normal skin, so lacks the lipids it needs to retain moisture and build a shield against external aggressors. There are 3 main types of dry skin:
  • Dry skin: This is characterised by temporary discomfort, slight tightness and light desquamation.
  • Very dry skin: This is characterised by marked discomfort and tightness, heavy flaking, cracking and chapping.
  • Pre-atopic xerosis: which is characterised by rough, coarse skin, with scaling and mild irritation.

How to look after dry skin

Dry skin is skin that is deficient in lipids and water, and there are a number of steps you need to take to improve it:

  • Opt for fat-rich skincare products to make up for the lack of lipids in the skin.
  • Opt for active ingredients that help to keep skin hydrated, such as plant glycerine, hyaluronic acid, aloe vera gel, etc.
  • Avoid cosmetic products containing alcohol; that’s why the products in the  Nakia range from Karila Cosmetics are carefully formulated without alcohol and with active ingredients to keep your skin moisturised and, above all, replenished with lipids.
  • Drink enough water to top up the body’s water intake
  • Avoid exposure to the sun
  • Avoid taking your bath in hot water, or opt for lukewarm water.

OILY SKIN

Oily skin is skin with increased sebum production, characterised by clearly visible, dilated pores, a shiny appearance and pale, thick skin.

Unlike combination skin, where excess sebum can be seen on the T-zone (forehead, nose, chin), oily skin can be seen all over the face.

Very often, the main characteristics of oily skin are acne and blackheads.

However, having oily skin is not in itself a bad thing, as the hypersecretion of sebum provides optimum protection against external aggressors, and resists skin ageing.

How to look after oily skin

Oily skin care is essentially based on regulating the sebum it produces, so it’s important to adopt an appropriate routine.
  •  Choose a body lotion or an ultra-light face cream with mattifying properties that absorb excess sebum and rebalance the skin. Our products in the caramielis range are perfectly suited to your skin.
  • Eat a diet rich in zinc, such as meat, cheese, wholemeal bread, etc.
  • Also opt for a diet rich in vitamin A

COMBINATION SKIN

Combination skin has the characteristics of oily skin on the T-zone (dilated pores, uneven skin texture) and dry skin on the rest of the face (generally the cheeks).

Seen from this angle, we’d say that combination skin is the most complex, as it oscillates between excess sebum on certain areas and excess dryness on others. That said, for a skincare routine suited to your skin type, you need to opt for products that are gentle and non-aggressive for your skin.

How do I look after combination skin?

To take good care of your combination skin and even it out, you can:

  •  Gently exfoliate at least once a week, paying particular attention to the T-zone.
  • Opt for purifying facial masks on your T-zone, preferably with clay
  • Make it a point of honour to moisturise your skin and book an appointment with our dermo-advisors for a quality follow-up that meets your needs.

AND THAT’S IT!!!

You now know your skin type, so take care of it properly. Don’t forget that your skin is your treasure, it’s the first thing that catches our attention when we look at you, so make it sublime with Karila Cosmetics products.

In short, for brighter, more radiant skin, whatever your skin type:

  •  opt for a healthy, balanced diet
  • Get active
  • Moisturise as normal
  • AND ABOVE ALL, BE HAPPY !!!!
